Aquatic Therapy

Accelerated Rehabilitation Centers offers an Aquatic Therapy Program in a private, comfortable, and friendly environment. Aquatic therapy is a therapeutic, low-impact exercise program that is performed in water. This type of therapy involves a broad spectrum of cardiovascular endurance and conditioning exercises that are traditionally performed on land. In water, these exercises, which include walking, jogging, jumping, swimming, and kicking, become less rigorous.

Aquatic therapy is used for a variety of medical conditions including:

  • Sports injuries
  • Muscle and connective tissue injuries
  • Pre- and post-operative joint replacements
  • Fractures
  • Spine injuries
  • Acute orthopedic conditions
  • Neuromuscular injuries
  • Rheumatological disease
  • Neurological impairment

Aquatic therapy exercises are especially beneficial when limited or non-weight-bearing exercise is desirable. The physical properties of water—buoyancy, viscosity, hydrostatic pressure, and warmth—create a unique therapeutic environment that supports patient healing and improves exercise performance.

Benefits of aquatic therapy:

  • Improves muscle tone and strength
  • Builds up endurance
  • Increases cardiovascular function
  • Decreases the amount of weight bearing, reducing the impact on the musculoskeletal system
  • Increases circulation, flexibility, range of motion, balance, and coordination

Our clinicians, who have advanced training in aquatic therapy and are CPR certified, provide hands-on treatment and instruction to you in the pool. Our Aquatic Therapy Program is conducted in pools that are well heated and easily accessible. Locker room facilities with private showers, toiletries, and towels are always available.

Aquatic Therapy is offered at our Lincoln Park @ Lake Shore Athletic Club center.
